‘I am West Indian born and bred, so were my parents and grandparents back into slavery. The search for freedom is a fundamental instinct of us Caribbean people being slaves. So you may understand quite easily why when Mark Duggan died hatred covered the whole country.

Living here has been difficult to tell a ruling caste that you get nowhere in trying to make us change that spirit for freedom. That’s how we all are- you have to chop off the head- there is no place for something else. So we take it in our stride and sharpen the thought and sensibility. I’m ready, any time any place.’
