Head, Michael.
This image is a portrait of a friend, the artist Michael Chaitow. From a bright light at its centre, yellow and orange merge into an outer area of predominately green. Strong directional marks are applied over this piece giving a feeling of movement, struggle, even turmoil. Some of these marks are punctuated with pure Ultramarine blue. Blue signifies truth, intellect, revelation, wisdom and contemplation. It is the colour of the great deep, the feminine principle of the waters. The curved marks of a broken ellipse, another indication of struggle towards purity for the artist are painted in white.
