St. Curigs Porthkerry

St. Curigs Porthkerry

St. Curigs Church, Porthkerry.

Nr. Rhoose,Vale of Glamorgan. CF62 3BZ.

When St Cadoc founded the monastery in nearby Llancarfan around the year 650 A.D. Porthkerry was the main port of the area. Early Christian missionaries tended to favour sites that already had spiritual significance to site their churches, in order to make the process of converting the locals easier.  So it follows that as this particular one is sited so close to Iron Age settlements, it has existed as a place of worship and spiritual significance in one form or another for a very long time. The current church is beautiful both inside and out. Taking a moment to be still in this place rejuvenates mind, body and uplifts the heart.
